Business leaders, managers and workplace decision-makers are being invited to attend a free lunch and learn training session focused on how workplaces can better support employees experiencing domestic, family and sexual violence.
Held during International Women’s Day Week, the Illawarra Women’s Health Centre will introduce Workplaces for Change, a program designed to equip leaders with the knowledge, skills and confidence to respond appropriately and compassionately when employees are impacted by violence.
The event, taking place online on Tuesday, March 10, will explore how the impacts of domestic, family and sexual violence can show up in the workplace, and how informed leadership responses can improve safety, well-being and retention.
Domestic, family and sexual violence has profound impacts on people’s health, well-being, and economic security, and these impacts often extend into the workplace. Leaders are frequently the first point of contact when an employee is struggling, yet many report feeling unsure how to respond.
The Workplaces for Change program supports leaders and teams to recognise signs of abuse, understand its impacts, and implement strengths-based, trauma-informed pathways for employees who may need help.

General Manager of Illawarra Women’s Health Centre, Jess Davidson, said effective leadership is essential to ensuring workplaces respond safely, responsibly and appropriately when employees are impacted by violence.
“For women whose lives and careers are impacted by violence, informed and compassionate leadership can make a significant difference,” she said.
“Providing safety, stability and clear pathways to support at critical moments can help prevent further harm and protect employees.”
The online session aligns with International Women’s Day, a global moment to reflect on women’s rights and take meaningful action toward equality and justice. This year’s theme is Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls underscores the responsibility of organisations and leaders to create safe, respectful and equitable environments.
The free training is open to leaders, managers, HR and WHS professionals, and anyone in a position of influence within their workplace.
Participants are encouraged to bring their lunch, curiosity, and commitment to positive change to join a conversation on how leadership can drive safer, more supportive workplaces.
